Houston, we have a problem. Mircosoft Excel, OpenOffice Calc and LibreOffice Calc are not fully compatible with each other!
We have a problem. Well, most of us do.
Let’s say everyone who works with Microsoft Excel and OpenOffice Calc or LibreOffice Calc. This affects accountants and probably some of us self-employed and freelancers.
My accounting works so far. Works so far under Excel apparently – at least that’s how I had it 2 years ago. And under OpenOffice.
The day before yesterday I tried to enter 2 items in my bookkeeping with LibreOffice and then I had the salad.
Instead of the totals of the income only #Value! .
As soon as someone does something to it with LibreOffice, it’s like that.
For the time being, I have no idea how to solve this with LibreOffice.
I was recently told by an accountant at Johanniter Unfall Hilfe that they have exactly the same problem.
I find it extremely commendable that the open source project of LibreOffice, Apache OpenOffice, exists alongside Microsoft Office.
Nevertheless, it should be the case that the formula remains the same and the entire table is not destroyed when I open and save something with LibreOffice.

Then it is apparently not possible to install OpenOffice directly as an application under Linux, despite the availability of downloads for LinuxMint.
Using Wine or Q4Wine, it was then possible to install OpenOffice as a Windows application under LinuxMint.
Unfortunately, this means the end for a LinuxMint with 30 GB and a usable partition of about 25 GB. OpenOffice can’t be installed on top of that because there isn’t enough memory.
What are your experiences with this? Have you also had to deal with this?
