Was ist UEFI?
UEFI steht für „Unified Extensible Firmware Interface“, was soviel heißt wie
“Einheitliche erweiterbare Firmware Schnittstelle”.
UEFI ist der Nachfolger BIOS.
BIOS steht für “Basic Input Output System”, “Grundsätzliches Ein- Ausgabe System”.
MBR und GUID
UEFI unterstützt neben dem MBR MasterBootrecord Festplattentabelle auch GUID .
GUID Formatierte Festplatten sind unter Einschränkungen auch auf älteren rechnern mit BIOS
verwendbar. GUID ist auch notwendig, da das ältere MBR Verfahren nur bis maximal 2 Terrabyte
unterstützt.
Der UEFI Chip sitzt am Mainboard meist in der Nähe der CPU.
Im Gegensatz zu den älteren BIOS haben viele UEFI sogar eine grafische Benutzeroberfläche und können mit der Maus bedient werden.
SecureBoot
Wichtiger Bestandteil des UEFI, das Nutzern von Linux und Computerservice Spezialisten viel Kopfweh machen kann, ist SecureBoot. SecureBoot verhindert das Starten von nicht signierten Alternativ-Betriebssystemen.
Verhindert werden soll unter anderem, dass von Dritten durch Fremdstarten Viren eingeschleust werden können.
So wie es aktuell ist, werden die Zertifikate nur von Microsoft ausgestellt, was auch heißt, dass nur das gebootet werden kann, was Microsoft will. Aktuell haben jedoch die meisten Linux-Varianten ein Zertifikat zum Booten,
z.B. LinuxMint , Kubuntu, Ubuntu und viele anderen.
SecureBoot lässt sich auch ausschalten, allerdings kann je nach UEFI, dann eventuell nicht mehr von der mit SecureBoot installierten Windows-Partition gebootet werden. Teilweise kann dann auf die Partition auch nicht zugegriffen werden.
Manche Software wie Memtest86+ , die kostenlos ist, und von vielen Computerservices als Software zur Speicherüberprüfung verwendet wird, hat keinen solchen Header mit Zertifikat. Das zwingt uns dann, SecureBoot vorübergehend auszuschalten.

SecureBoot can also be switched off, but depending on the UEFI, it may no longer be possible to boot from the Windows partition installed with SecureBoot. Sometimes the partition can’t be accessed either.
Some software like Memtest86+ , which is free of charge and is used by many computer services as memory checking software, does not have such a header with certificate. This then forces us to temporarily disable SecureBoot.
